A Sense of Belonging
It has been said that leaving the forces, it's like landing on another planet. We know that ex-service personnel really miss the comradeship they experience, not to mention the black sense of humor which goes around whilst serving.
Social isolation is a huge problem amongst veterans both young and old, and can often lead to or worsen mental health problems. We have created a “community” for our members… blah blah… regularly organise day trips and other social activities including our much loved and eagerly anticipated weekly bacon-roll mornings (Friday mornings); our fortnightly ‘Kick’a‘boot’ (Thursday evenings); our monthly outings (usually the first Friday afternoon of each month); and our popular fishing trips. For our socially isolated and elderly veterans in particular, these social events can be a lifeline. They can also be an avenue to create new friendships, rekindle old ones and provide an opportunity to indulge in some military banter.
